Is the correct octane level 87, 89 or Premium fuel for a 2004 Suzuki Intruder 1400 cc Motorcycle?|||I would guess, in fact I would bet a little bit, that the Intruder is made for regular- unleaded, 87. But it's easy enough to tell. If it needs premium it will say on it, by the fuel filler, 'Premium Fuel Only'.
Also, if you put regular in it, and it knocks (pings) then get the next higher grade next time. The ONLY difference between grades of gas is anti-knock capability, so if the motor doesn't knock under hard acceleration, you don't need any better or more expensive gas.
BTW if you have computerized fuel injection and ignition (as a 2004 car would have) then even if it's made for premium gas, you can put regular in it and it will work just fine. The computer in an engine like this senses knocks and retards the spark just a bit until they go away. So you get 2 or 3 less horsepower but you don't get knocking no matter what.|||regrg
